Mother Bear is a Stoner-/Doom-Metal trio from Dortmund, Germany, founded in 2017 by Florian Grass (drums) and Kevin Krenczer (bass). After releasing some tracks as a duo they were joined by Jonas Wenz (guitars & vocals) and found their current shape. They now combine slow, heavy riffs with psychedelic influences and are as known the only Walter Moers-themed band on this planet.

Kurt Cobain said one thing: the only tie-dye shirt he would wear would be dyed with the blood of Jerry Garcia. And the stoner-doom band Mother Bear sounds exactly like that: something between patchouli and piss, between a burnt-out tube in the guitar amp and a kicked-over acrylic bong.
The riffs are as bone-dry as the permanent cardboard mouth of a pimply teenager. Kevin’s bass sound is heavier than the burden of being bullied in school for reading fantasy books. Singer Jonas sounds as if he's gulping down a little bit of the previous night's Pernod through his oily throat and drummer Florian's snares are reminiscent of the muffled sound you heard the last time your ex-girlfriend threw a heavy glass ashtray at your skull during an argument. With their second album “Orm 2”, the three losers from Dortmund show impressively that you don't have to come from Louisiana, Palm Desert or Dorset to write dull doom songs about fantasy novels and ignore the mold problem in the rehearsal room. The soundtrack for people whose only interpersonal contact consists of regularly shouting at the cashier at the supermarket, for 30-year-olds who still hang out on pissed-up halfpipes and don't pay child support or are simply too shy to admit that they would much rather read Walter Moers than watch mediocre sexploitation films with a half-hard willy.
Get the fuck out of my room mom!
Formed in 2017 in Dortmund, Germany, by Florian Grass (drums) and Kevin Krenczer (bass guitar) alongside their former blues and psych band Saint Gallus Convention Tapes and their short-lived noise/drone project Nakapan, the stoner doom band released their demo “Bear Mother” the same year, followed by the single “PKB-7”. After a short hiatus, Jonas Wenz, bass player in the hardcore band Second Sight, joined the cathartic doom duo on guitar and vocals, leading the the sloth of bears to switching their sound to a more song-oriented, psychedelic sound. United in their worship of the muggroom, their love for loud amps, as well as the creed of “slow music for slow minds”, Mother Bear truly does their namesake justice. After their debut album “Zamonian Occultism”, a collaborative split-EP with Rhode Island-based folk singer Allysen Calelry, life gigs with EyeHateGod, Eremit or Monastr as well as non-genre acts like Giant Crow, they will release their second longplayer “Orm 2” (hopefully) in 2026.
